I really like this one. I read when I can but, unfortunately, I have allowed "life" to interfere. I've had a goal to lose weight for years. Never accomplished it. But this year I changed the goal to "I'm going to play sports and do as many activities with my kids as I can this year". So, I've played tennis with one, hiking with another, Wii Guitar hero with the another. It's been a blast. I'm closer to my children than ever. I've lost 8 pounds in 2 months (and I'm not even trying)! Set the goals for what you really want, attack it with passion, and the "side" benefits will overwhelm you.

I have a manager who is a "fear manager". They have been told to read this book. If this manager stays true to form, they will manipulate the material of the book to show how they are the organization's savior among incompetants. I have my doubts they are capable of recognizing themself as an "elephant."

Aside from "revealing character" and creating a bubble of positive self-talk, how is it possible to deflect arguments from your book that "fear managers" are manipulating to their own ends?

Quite a conundrum, huh?

I was at church a few weeks ago to listen to my daughter's (now 15 3/4, wow) teen revival speaker. He talked about his journey from "ho hum" to "wow' in his life. He said he found the "wow" when he vivsted his grandmother one day who baiscally said, "nice to see you again, we're going to change your life by removing your autopilot". She made him question virtually everything he know and believed. He came to find out that what he thought he wanted out of life really wasn't what he was all about. So he challenged us - let go of the autopilot and steer your own ship.

In other words - map, I don't need no stinking map!

This is part of my daily challenge. Getting on and doing a fabulous jobs is not my issue, it is taking the low raod - the negative comment (generally behind the back), before doing the fabulous job.

What are you doing in the bathroom? This story says it all. We follow leaders not because of what they say or do, but because of who we believe they are. The statement is true, however, I have a choice. Obviously there are those in leadership roles who are not credible, but that does not mean that I have to follow that path. I as an individual can still continue to do the right thing in spite of who I believe they are.

Mike! You logically break it down for us - again! Your wisdom is right on, and a terrific reminder that we've got to start with us. Right here. Right now.

Thanks for standing with the Tall Guys, Mike -
Craig

Another thing to watch for is "constant change". In the workplace to often we seek "change". We are looking for the better, cheaper, quicker, etc. Let's face it, change is coming. But that doesn't mean we aren't getting along pretty well in the moment. We can't forget that, job one, is to keep the boat afloat. Kind of hard to row the boat while it is sinking ...

As the saying goes ...If you can't be happy where you are, it's a cinch you can't be happy where you ain't.

Hitting home again ... I see these lines all over the place. Just like a weather "front". Weather on either side of the front is fine ... but when the weather systems meet (a front) the weather is generally turbulent. Finding a way to have the different systems meet without causing a stir ... that is a great challenge!

Mike! What a terrific example of leadership in action. And I love your honesty. In one note you demonstrated what's necessary for anyone to truly deliver greater results.

Thanks for standing with the Tall Guys!
