  1. Tell us about the best boss you've had.
Steve Vannoy - hands down. His ability to believe in people no matter what their failings might be. He's like no other person on the planet. His vision for what's possible lifts everybody higher.
  2. In what area(s) are you currently working on growing?
    • My personal integrity in the use of the tools in the book – and all of the Pathways to Leadership® tools. I aspire to be more like the leaders that we get to serve and support.
    • Particularly in the area of not being attached to outcomes, because when I attach to a specific business result I find that two things happen: Number one - I get frustrated. And number two – I limit what's possible.
    • I need to remember to empty the dishwasher.
  3. Do you have any pets? If so, tell us about them.
I have a cat named Neil Young who, if he doesn't get his way, sings like Neil Young. He is the world's greatest cat. We just got a new dog, Dumbledore. He is quickly proving to be the world's greatest dog. He has the look of wisdom and the spirit of innocence.
  4. What do you want people to know that's NOT in the book?
This is in the book, but I don't know if people will catch it. It's the perfectionist myth – the idea that when you read a book you default to the belief that the authors are the experts at this. And so I suppose it's in the book, but I'm not sure we communicated it well enough – it's that these leaders that we feature and quote…they're really freaking good at what they do. They're really good at using the tools – they're the experts. It's definitely not about Steve and I.

  6. For those of us who haven't yet written a book, do you have any words of wisdom?
Writing a book is not about creating something new, it's more of a process of revealing what already is…which the more I live that understanding, the easier it is to write.
  7. If there were a motto for how you live your life, what would it be?
Have as much fun as possible.
  8. Tell us about a defining moment in your life.
I lost what had been my dream job up to that point in my life and my first marriage. I was sitting on the floor of my apartment. Flat broke – no money. When it occurred to me - REALLY occurred to me - that I was responsible for all the results in my life.
  9. What's your favorite ice cream flavor?
There's too many! But if you made me choose I'd have to go with a really good coffee, chocolate, peanut butter creation.
